Carrier appetite summary
Program: California private passenger auto only; Alliance United is a non-standard/standard personal auto market focused on local California risks. Guide is labeled “2019 California Underwriting Guide – Private Passenger Automobile Program.” Preferred / target business: - California private passenger autos garaged in-state, written through appointed independent brokers. - Risks that qualify as California “Good Driver” (per CIC 1861.025) receive lower policy fees and are exempt from catastrophe submission moratoriums. - Households where Alliance United writes all private passenger vehicles, with stable garaging, timely payments, and complete documentation. Geographic notes: - California only; vehicles must be principally garaged in California at a valid garaging address. - Catastrophe restriction: new business cannot be written or submitted in any area where a governmental agency or National Weather Service has issued a watch or warning for catastrophe (earthquake, flood, fire, hail, tornado, windstorm, tropical storm, hurricane, etc.). This restriction does not apply when all drivers qualify as California Good Drivers and all vehicles are private passenger type. Submission & binding requirements: - Brokers have no binding authority for any Alliance United program; coverage is only in force when the application is submitted and accepted by Alliance United’s automated or manual underwriting. - New business via online system: effective date/time equals the date/time the electronic application is submitted and accepted by automated underwriting. - Manually submitted new business: earliest effective date is 12:01 a.m. the day after the postmark date on the envelope. - Broker must obtain all required signatures and forward funds to Alliance United within 72 hours; failure may result in cancellation or voiding. - Applications may be voided only by an electronic request from the broker on the same day, with explanation. - Additional insured endorsements are available at no charge to protect a third party’s liability interest; not available on named non-owned policies. - Photos and supporting documentation (e.g., for vehicles, drivers, endorsements, address changes) must be obtained by the broker per guide; Alliance may request copies at any time. Policy changes / endorsements: - All policy changes are subject to the same underwriting rules as new business; Alliance may reject and return a requested change unbound if it does not meet guidelines. - Change requests should be submitted via the Alliance United online system whenever possible; effective date/time for online changes is the date/time processed. - Manually submitted changes: effective 12:01 a.m. the day after postmark / fax receipt / email receipt if underwriting-eligible. - Additional or replacement vehicles may be added within 30 days of purchase provided Alliance United insures all private passenger vehicles in the household; after 30 days, standard effective-date rules apply. - Garaging address changes must be processed within 10 days of the actual change. - Coverage deletions cannot be backdated; documentation must be uploaded or sent within 3 days of the requested effective date. - For changes processed online, brokers retain documents in their office; Alliance may request copies at any time. Unacceptable risks and drivers (declined classes – highlights): - Drivers or risks specifically listed under “Unacceptable Risks and Drivers” (e.g., certain serious violations, fraud/misrepresentation indicators, unlicensed or permanently revoked drivers, or other disqualifying conditions – brokers must review the specific matrix in the guide). - Policies that do not meet California licensing/experience rules or have prohibited combinations of accidents/violations as described in the underwriting section. Unacceptable vehicles and physical damage restrictions: - Certain vehicle types are unacceptable for any coverage or unacceptable for physical damage only, as outlined in the “Unacceptable Risks and Vehicles” and “Unacceptable Vehicles for Physical Damage” sections (e.g., unusual or heavily modified vehicles, certain high-performance or exotic vehicles, salvage or severely damaged vehicles without proper documentation or inspection; specifics depend on the detailed lists in the guide). - Salvage vehicles have special requirements and may be restricted or declined for physical damage unless they meet salvage vehicle rules. Driver & rating notes: - Years of driving experience, license status (including foreign/international licenses), marital status, SR‑22 requirements, and student/military status all factor into acceptability and rating and must be accurately documented. - Accidents and violations are pointed per the “Violation Points” and “Accident Points” tables with specific chargeable time periods; excessive points or prohibited major violations move the risk into the unacceptable class. - All drivers in the household must be disclosed and either rated or excluded per company rules. Coverage and options: - Standard personal auto coverages available: BI/PD, UM/UIM, UMPD, Med Pay, Comprehensive and Collision, plus optional endorsements like Rental Reimbursement, Towing Package, Named Non‑Owned Vehicle, Special Equipment, and (separate) Named‑Operator Physical Damage coverage. - Certain coverages or limits may be restricted when underlying driver or vehicle characteristics fall outside preferred guidelines (e.g., physical damage on older, salvage, or unacceptable vehicle types). Billing, payment & term structure (operational points for brokers): - Terms offered: 1‑month, 3‑month, 6‑month, and 12‑month, with direct bill (paid in full or installments), EFT, or recurring credit card. - 1‑ and 3‑month policies are continuous-until-cancelled; renewals are issued at least 20 days prior to expiration. Six‑month anniversaries are used for rating; policies may be underwritten annually. - 6‑ and 12‑month policies: non-pay notices issued after due date; payment before cancel date reinstates without lapse or fees. - After cancellation for non-pay, payment within 30 days may allow rewrite or reinstate with lapse, subject to underwriting and a reissue fee; later payments require new business treatment and a new application. - New business down payment must be remitted via insured credit card or electronic sweep from broker’s trust account; Alliance does not sweep the broker’s trust account within the first 48 hours after upload. - Policy, renewal, and service fees are applied per the fee schedule (e.g., distinct new business policy fees for Good Driver vs. Non‑Good Driver, renewal billing fees, etc.). Broker / producer notes: - No binding authority; all coverage is contingent on Alliance United’s acceptance. - Brokers must: - Collect accurate information and all required signatures. - Maintain change documentation in their files when changes are processed online, and produce it upon company request. - Submit broker‑of‑record change requests in writing, signed by both the new broker and the insured. BOR changes take effect at the next 6‑ or 12‑month renewal, though the new broker may service the policy once Alliance receives the BOR form. - Alliance United reserves the right to underwrite and review policies at renewal and to non-renew or adjust based on underwriting results.
